Home Away Home, a multi-disciplinary visual and media arts exhibition & festival celebrating diversity, immigrant stories and vernacular architecture of the city, will converge in Toronto’s historic Kensington Market neighbourhood from September 6 – 10th 2018. The event features exterior/ interior installations in historic Victorian and eclectic architecture. Laneways, streets, parks, public space and alternative exhibition spaces, in addition to galleries will be used to activate the neighbourhood in new exciting ways for the public. The festival will also curate a series of programming to accompany the exhibition and artist installations that will galvanize the public. Programming will include historic tours, workshops, talks, family activities and musical performances.
The artworks featured in this exhibition engage with a broad range of work including performance, photography, audio, video, sculpture, installation and painting. At the heart of the exhibition is the belief that a multitude of voices and stories anchored by strong artists and a complexity of cultures and identities (including artists identifying as queer, female or with culturally diverse backgrounds) that are often underrepresented. The multimedia installation features new site specific and recent projects by artists from across Canada.
