Please join 156 Studio Projects in a screening of The Living End, the fifth in a series of monthly screenings of influential queer films of cult notoriety. Screened in the gallery space of 156 Augusta, this series will spotlight queer films of controversial and or/idiosyncratic quality. Each film will be followed by a discussion of its relationship, relevance and impact on LGBTQ+ culture.
An early entry in the New Queer Cinema genre, Gregg Araki’s “The Living End” follows the unconventional meeting of Luke and Jon, two gay and HIV-positive young men who who embark on a dangerous and hedonistic journey after a violent encounter.
PWYC (Recommended: 5$) Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.

ABOUT THE CHROMAKEY LAVENDER: regarding the two words in the title – chromakey: the background colour used in screen based editing to superimpose an augmented image or video by mapping it to a single uncommon colour. Lavender: in reference to lavender linguistics, a concept developed to bracket the ever evolving, ever intriguing expressive patterns of queer culture. Together, Chromakey Lavender refers to the unseen forces percolating in the background of film culture upon which queer lifeways are presented in order to represent a diverse and subversive

ABOUT THE SPACE: 156 Studio Projects is an artist run space located in Toronto, Canada. In the heart of Kensington Market, this space supports emerging art and art projects with programming made with the intention of encouraging creative processes. All money made from 156 programming will go back directly into operational costs that will allow us to continue to provide spaces and opportunity to emerging artists and designers.
